Nelson Club Champs Decided

Shane Harwood returns in the Ecotech 693N Superstock machine

A winning return for the Shane Harwood who had come out of retirement to replace the injured Ben Smith in the 693n Super Stock, Harwood picked up the club championship after a bit of controversy when the final race was marred with the white flag being waved incorrectly causing post-race issues.

The growing line-up of cars ticked off another qualifying meeting towards the NZ Title in a couple of years, Nicholls had the points lead  going into the final race but had to settle for second once they made the decision on the flagging issue. Ben Taylor finished 3rd overall with Mick Eden now behind the wheel of the 87n machine having bought it off Josh Nell. A couple of drivers were away but they will be back next week to contest the South Island title which should be a good watch, North Islander Quinn Ryan will add spice to the line-up.

Three-way ties highlighted the Streetstocks and Production Saloons going into their final race, providing close racing for their titles, Steve Soper prevailing in the Streetstocks from Ryan Musgrove, while Cody McCarrison was unable to finish the final heat. Perry Soper sneaking into the 3rd spot overall.

It was Vaughan Cornelius that pipped the rest picking up the Production Saloon title after being tied with Dave Leitch and Eddie Frans heading into their final heat, Abbey Carter doing enough to finish ahead of Leitch to make the podium behind Frans and Cornelius.

It took a run-off to decide the Side-car Club title, Harley and Rob Martin tied with Brent Steer and Wade Thorn after 3 heats, with the latter pairing of Steer and Thorn taking the title. Aide Drake and Sam Kingsbury filling the podium in 3rd.

The Quarter Midgets continued their busy season, regular visitor Jack Brownlees pipping locals Locky Martin and Conley Webley, Martin still leads the Mike Greer homes ¼ midget series while Webley continues to get good results in his new race car picking up the first heat win.

The 2nd of 3 rounds to decide the T.Q. club title was another good one for Tyler Warnock, the Cantabarian extending his over all lead to 22 points, Dylan Bensemann and Jonti Austin leading the local charge, John Schoester dropping back after a DNF in heat 1, but winning the feature race.
