As some of you might or might not know we here at the Milestone Homes Top of the South Speedway have been in a legal battle with a couple of our neighbours over our deemed consent from back in 1968 which stated (amongst other things) that we were to run race meetings once a fortnight between the months of October until April. As a consequence of the court hearing we (Nelson Speedway Association) had been deemed by the courts to have been running outside of this consent in seasons past. Our only option to run a two day event such as the Superstock GP was to apply for a variation to our consent with the local council. This was lodged a few months back but has unfortunately dragged out to such a time that we as a club had to make the tough decision to abandon the consent process as it was running out of time before the running of the Grand Prix. The cost so far for us as a club due to lawyers, sound testing, consents and the like is in the tens of thousands of dollars so for us to reduce a blue ribbon event such as this to a one day show will financially be tough on the club. All that aside however we are a proud club with a fine history of running championships to the highest level so I can guarantee that we will be doing our very best to make this event a success. This event will now be run as a one day show on the 12th January 2019. One of the downsides to this is that you will note that our gate prices will be slightly increased to try and offset some of the costs of running such a big show like this. We just ask for your understanding behind the reasoning for this. See you all trackside.
